The Lewis County Family Resource Network is a grassroots nonprofit organization which works to improve or develop services for children and families in Lewis County, West Virginia.

Since its beginning in 1999, the all volunteer FRN membership and board has been identifying and addressing local needs, as well as researching and developing new programs and funding sources. The monthly meetings are open to anyone interested in working on these issues.  The membership is made up of family members who received public services, community leaders and agency representatives.

Lewis County was one of the last five counties in West Virginia to receive grant money to implement a Family Resource Network, so our organization did not experience some of the growing pains of early FRNs.  Many of our agency representatives and community leaders were anxious to work in this type of organization where local family representatives are part of the planning for services.  We are proud that the voices of Lewis County residents receiving services are heard and respected by our service members.

Our executive director organizes meetings, programs, trainings and family events, as well as assists the members to 1) assess needs and strengths, 2) increase awareness of services and 3) develop solutions to problems.  This includes helping to find resources and funding. Our membership is made up of volunteers who work on committees to plan events, programs and the work plan for the next year.  Each event or program has a variety of volunteer opportunities from planning to implementation.  An example of an ongoing project is our food pantry, which requires stocking inventory, boxing orders and taking appointments.  Special events include health fairs or children and family activities which may require anything from handing out brochures to hands on craft making.  The office needs assistance in filing, copying and collating, inventory, answering phones, and meeting preparation.  Other office duties, such as computer data entry, are a possibility.  Some of our volunteers have learned new skills which can help in other areas of their lives.
