Lewis County Family Resource Pantry is a source of food and personal items for low income families. We work in collaboration with 'Our Neighbor' and 'Mountaineer Food Bank' to offer nutritional supplement and personal and sundry items not available with food stamps. Food stamps are limited to food products only. It is difficult for low income families to stay clean and healthy, or even enjoy the normal comfort of life, when they cannot purchase soap, detergent, toothbrushes and toothpaste, toilet paper or the additional comforts of shampoo, lotion, razors, tissues, and feminine sanitary items, just to name a few. The supplies provided by the Mountaineer Food Bank Program are at very low cost to the LCFRP as a non-profit 501(3) agency; only the cost of transportation. That comes to about $14.64 of donated food and sundries for every dollar we spend. We have committed to purchase these goods out of our United Way allotment; however we still have pressing needs. Donations from local residents and businesses have been the backbone of this program. We receive the much appreciated in-kind support from the community in the form of volunteers to transport and unload the supplies and fill orders. The pantry location, 145 High Street, is donated by the Lewis County Commissioners in a building directly behind the Louis Bennett Library.
Distribution is by appointment only, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Please call 269-4000 for more information.
